Upcoming events!

So, you say this weekend will be like every other weekend….nothing to do but be bored and watch TV-WRONG!

First, there’s Friday night(tomorrow!).  Fort Shame(one of the bands Bryan Kossmann plays drums in) will be playing with the Woosley Band and Angela Perley at the Treehouse.  The fun starts at 10pm and it’s only $5 to get in. facebook

Second, there’s all day Saturday!  That’s right, starting at noon, Independent’s Day 2010 begins!  There will be food, drinks, art, music, and a whole lot more.  The whole shebang will be on Gay St. between High and 3rd and the festival bleeds onto Lynn and Pearl alleys.  We here at Couchfire will have art on display in the Grip Technologies space on Gay St.  Stop in and say hi!  Oh and if you have a good time and happen to run into Wolf Starr-let him know and thank him for his hard work this year.  Let all of your friends know that you’re going and invite them to come along on facebook. Full details for the festival can be found on the ID10 website.

Okay, so we’ll let you rest on Sunday, and Monday too, but Tuesday night should be another great event.  We’ve had our art on display at the Artillery space in the South Campus Gateway for a couple of weeks and we’re having our closing reception on Tuesday night(it’s also the celebration of our 4th anniversary!).  OAL has a show opening that night too, and Artillery will be hosting their monthly artist market as well.  And if that’s not enough, there will also be music from Bell Acoustic, The Shrewdness of Apes, The Little Professors, Karate Coyote, and The Wet Darlings.  Check it out on facebook!

That’s about it for now, keep your eyes and ears open for news on upcoming events like Feast II and Viewfinder!

ID09 Update

Hello everyone!

Independent’s Day 09 is fast approaching-only 12 days until the big event! September 19th promises to be a big day for us-and you! If you are still looking to get involved during the big day, why not help out by being a volunteer? The more, the merrier.

Another way to help us out is by spreading the word. We have created a facebook event for the occasion(surprise!). Why not RSVP and invite all of your friends? Seriously, all of them.

We hope that there will be something for everyone at this year’s festival. Some more details about the food court that Dine Originals has put together. This will show off the culinary talents of local restaurants including Tip Top, Deep Wood, Banana Bean, G Micheal’s, Elevator, Pistachio Vera, Due Amici, Cotters, Katzinger’s and Barcelona.

As we finalize details for ID09, we will keep updating you here, on facebook and twitter. Also, don’t forget to check out the official website.

Independents’ Day 2009

Hello all you folks out there keeping tabs on our comings and goings!  This is Kevin W. here with an update on ID09  for you!  This is my first time posting to the CF blog and I hope that my ramblings are not so boring that you navigate away and on to some other worthy site like… Well, something else.

To start, let’s talk bands and music!  We have 14 confirmed bands thus far, one band I locked in myself today!  Those bands are:

-Flotation Walls
-The Lindsay
-Bush League All-Stars
-You’re So Bossy
-Karate Coyote
-Shin Tower Music
-Blastronauts
-Six Gallery
-Moondrones
-Couch Forts
-D Rob
-Andy Shaw Band
-Sade Sade
-Tin Armor.

The COLUMBUS MUSIC CO-OP deserves a big hand for wrangling some of these bands as do THE OUTER SOUNDS and CENTRAL CITY RECORDING !

A veritable mélange of musical tastes and offerings!  But just hang on to your hats as more are coming or in the works!  I am sure some of you out there are familiar with these guys as they are all local musicians and that is perfection considering what ID09 is all about!

But ID09 is not only about music!  No!  We are about

COLLABORATION!

One collaborative effort this year will see  Via Colori spread out all over the ID09 area!  That’s right, watch your step as you navigate the day’s festivities or you may just wander into a work of chalk art!

Are you one to feel hungry and/or thirsty during a day chock-full of art, music and browsing? Well never fear, we have you covered! Thanks in part to DINE ORIGINALS and other local eateries you will not have to want for delicious, locally made nosh! Thanks to Mr. Lessner for getting the foodies together!

I promise to keep all of you updated on the goins-on of ID09 and what I and the rest of the Couchfire team are up to, so

BOOKMARK

this bloggy blog, check back often and let us know your thoughts!

Also, check in on the INDEPENDENTS’ DAY 2009 WEBSITE for updates, to participate or to volunteer! See you there, Columbus-onians!

Firstly, we’d like to remind everyone that Yummy! is opening tomorrow night at our Matchbox Gallery in Junctionview Studios(889 Williams st. in Grandview).  Amy Neiwirth has done a great job organizing this fun and charitable show.  There will be food, art about food, art with food, music, a Pecha Kucha presentation outside, followed by a movie.  Oh yeah, and Couch Forts will be playing!  All this and more begins at 6pm.  It’s free, but we ask that you bring a canned food item to donate to the mid-ohio food bank.  Hope to see you there!

Also, we wanted to announce that vendor registration is now open for Independent’s Day ’09!  Go to thisisindependent.com for more details and to get yourself a tent for the event.  Speaking of, ID09 will be on Sept. 19th, 2009 starting at noon.  Music, food, art, dancing and more!  Start getting ready!

See you all soon!
